WAKING ASHLAND / telescopes EP
WOLFMOTHER / self-titled
MEN WOMEN AND CHILDREN / self-titled
SAVES THE DAY / sound the alarm
SNOW PATROL / eyes open
THE RACONTEURS / broken boy solder
I have never been a big fan of the White Stripes or Jack White, but I can’t help but to love his newest band.
WE ARE SCIENTIST / with love and squalor
This record is filled with great danceable beats that you can’t help getting into.
BRAND NEW / the devil and god are raging inside of me
I thought this record was over hyped. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good album. It’s just not as brilliant as their first two.
SLOAN / never hear the end of it
Their first album in three years was another solid effort from these Nova Scotians boys. They haven’t lost their touch over the last decade and a half.
COBRA STARSHIP / while the city sleeps, we rule the streets
What ever Gabe Saporta wants to do, let him. First, he made Midtown great and his new project leaves you speechless.
THE FORMAT / dog problems
These guys took their band to a whole new level with the release of this record. It was one of the first CDs I heard this year and I still listen to on a regular basis.
ANGELS & AIRWAVES / we don't have to whisper
The break-up of Blink 182 was tough on their fans, but look on the bright side, without the break-up, this great album would probably never been released.
RISE AGAINST / the sufferer and the witness
These guys are another band that I really didn’t care for before this year, but after hearing this record at a buddy’s place, I enjoyed what I heard. The rest is history.
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE / the black parade
This is my favourite album of the year, but it’s not the best work that was released this year. However, I think it is the band’s best work ever and the album is a stroke of genius.
THE ELECTED / sun, sun, sun
This is sure to surprise a lot of people reading this year, especially if you know who this band is and my musical preferences. Blake Sennett is known for his other band, Rilo Kiley, but his side project is simply brilliant. It has a country-folk-poppy feel to it and comes together so beautifully that you cannot appreciate the band’s talent. I’ve been listening to this album ever since the summer when I got it, appreciating more and more with every listen.
