TOP 90s MOVIES

written by: Clarkey

Say what you want about the 90s, but the decade had some of the most influential films ever made in my mind.

Close, but no Cigar:
American Pie
Dogma
Good Will Hunting
Happy Gilmore
L.A. Confidential

#25 That Thing You Do
This film tells a great story of a one-hit wonder band. It is my favourite music-centered film.

#24 Rounders
It is the best movie about poker and it is another great Ed Norton movie.

#23 The Matrix
It revolutionized special effects in movies and it happened to be a kick ass movie, unlike its sequels.

#22 Life is Beautiful
Easily is my favourite Italian movie. Robert Benigni is outstanding on both sides of the camera.

#21 Se7en
One of the best mystery-thrillers on the list. David Fincher created another brilliant movie.

#20 The Usual Suspects
Simply put: a well made film with a hell of a twist.

#19 T2: Judgment Day
Arnie is back, but this time he’s a good guy. There’s more action and more great humor this time around.

#18 Jerry Maguire
I know that this is a love story, but Cameron Crowe is an expert in this genre and this is one of his best movies in my mind.

#17 Scream
This film got me into the horror genre, even though it’s more a spoof than a horror film.

#16 Rudy
Probably the most inspirational film on the list as a little Rudy’s dream of playing for the Fighting Irish comes true with lots of hard working and sacrifice.

#15 Clerks
Kevin Smith has a certain way with words and can make great comedies. Can’t wait for the sequel.

#14 The Shawshank Redemption
I honestly believe that this film is the best film set in a prison. No comparison.

#13 Dazed and Confused
One of my favourite comedies of all time. Filled with non-stop laughs and is still quoted a lot nowadays.

#12 Saving Private Ryan
The best war movie ever.

#11 True Romance
An all star cast with Tony Scott directing a Quentin Tarantino script. It’s impossible to go wrong.

#10 Chasing Amy
This film is Kevin Smith’s best work. A great, realistic love story between a man and a lesbian.

#9 A Few Good Men
A hell of a movie. The best courtroom drama in my mind.

#8 Pulp Fiction
Tons of people hail this film as the best thing that happened to the nineties and I agree to some extent, but there are simply more films that I enjoyed more.

#7 Swingers
One of the most underrated comedies of all time. It launched Vince Vaughn’s career.

#6 Fight Club
Another brilliant film from David Fincher and yet another awesome performance by Ed Norton.

#5 Reservoir Dogs
Quentin Tarantino’s directorial debut is still his best work. A very simple plot allows for great dialogue and excellent characters.

#4 Boyz ‘N the Hood
I cannot say enough good things about this film.
#3 Goodfellas
Among the top three mob films ever made in my mind. The next best thing to the Godfather and looks better than the Godfather at times.

#2 Forrest Gump
Tom Hanks captured all of us with his portrayal of the title character. It is simply an awesome movie with something for everybody with war scenes, comedy scenes, dramatic scenes, sports scenes and historical scenes.

#1 American History X
A powerful film with yet another brilliant performance from Ed Norton. How does the man not have at least 5 Oscars? The film deals with harsh and real issues that are still relevant nowadays, especially with the illegal immigrants in the United States.
